Let God Guide Your New Year
New Year’s resolutions are exciting, aren’t they? Writing down a list of goals and dreaming about how you’ll grow feels motivating. But let’s be real—how many of those resolutions have flopped because they didn’t align with what truly matters?
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Instead of relying solely on our plans, what if we invited God into the process?
Steps to Let God Lead
1. Start with Prayer
Before you even jot down a goal, take time to pray. Think of it as consulting the ultimate life coach who knows you better than you know yourself. Here’s a simple prayer to begin:
“Lord, thank You for this new year. I want my plans to align with Your will. Please guide my steps and show me where to focus.”
2. Reflect on Scripture
God’s Word offers wisdom for planning. Reflect on verses like Jeremiah 29:11 and Matthew 6:33. Ask yourself: How can I align my goals with God’s priorities?
3. Write God-Centered Goals
Make your resolutions about glorifying God. For instance:
Instead of “Get healthier,” try “Honor God by caring for my body.”
Instead of “Be more productive,” try “Use my time wisely to serve God and others.”
4. Stay Flexible
Plans change. Trust God’s timing and be open to His redirection. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us to commit our works to the Lord so He can establish our thoughts.
The Challenge
This year, pray over your resolutions weekly. Let God shape your plans and trust His lead. When you put Him first, you’ll step into the life He’s prepared for you—one full of purpose and eternal significance.
Be like Jesus every day!
