Shift Your Focus to Eternal Goals This Year

New Year’s resolutions often revolve around temporary achievements like losing weight, earning more money, or organizing our homes. While there’s nothing wrong with those goals, they can leave us feeling empty if they’re our only focus. What if, this year, we shifted our attention to something deeper? How different would our lives be if we focused on eternal goals?

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (NKJV). This verse challenges us to think beyond the here and now and prioritize what truly lasts. If we aren’t putting God’s kingdom first, all our goals are out of focus.

What Are Eternal Goals?

Eternal goals have lasting significance and reflect what matters to God. They aren’t about fleeting results but about shaping our hearts and impacting others. Examples include:

  • Growing closer to Christ.

  • Leading others to faith.

  • Loving and serving others in ways that reflect God’s character.

Unlike worldly goals, eternal goals don’t fade. They align us with God’s purpose, bring true fulfillment, and leave an impact that lasts beyond this life.

How to Set Eternal Goals

1. Deepen Your Relationship with God
Spend daily time in prayer, Bible reading, and worship. Even 15 minutes a day can strengthen your connection with God and keep your focus clear.

2. Invest in Others
Mentor someone in their faith, share the gospel, or simply be an encourager. Relationships are key to eternal impact. Start by intentionally praying for and discipling one person this year.

3. Serve with Purpose
Use your God-given gifts to serve others. Volunteer in your church or community, and don’t hesitate to try new opportunities to discover where God may be leading you.

A Challenge for This Year

This year, challenge yourself to set one eternal goal. Write it down, pray over it, and revisit it regularly. Whether it’s sharing your faith, deepening your prayer life, or serving others, trust that God will guide you as you step out in faith.

When we prioritize eternal goals, we align our lives with God’s purpose. Let the temporary fade, and let God’s eternal plans take center stage. This year, make the choice to focus on what truly lasts.

Actions speak louder than words so let's get to it!

Be like Jesus every day!
